What Products Can Help Me Stay Independent at Home?
The Support at Home program is an Australian Government initiative that helps older Australians continue living safely and independently in their own homes. Through My Aged Care, eligible participants can access a range of services, including personal care, domestic assistance, allied health services, home modifications, and assistive technology.
Aim of the Support at Home Program
The aim of the Support at Home program is to help older Australians maintain their independence, safety and quality of life while continuing to live at home. Remaining at home allows people to stay connected to their community, maintain familiar routines, and enjoy the comfort of their own surroundings for as long as possible.
A key part of the program is the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme, which provides eligible participants with equipment, assistive technology and home modifications to support everyday living.
Depending on your assessed needs, funding may be available for mobility aids, bathroom safety equipment, pressure care products, seating solutions, daily living aids and home modifications such as grab rails, ramps and other accessibility improvements.
These supports are designed to improve safety, reduce the risk of falls and make everyday activities easier.
What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive technology refers to equipment, devices and products that help people complete everyday activities more safely and independently. Depending on an individual’s assessed needs, assistive technology may assist with mobility and walking, showering and toileting, pressure care and positioning, sitting, standing and transferring, daily living activities, and maintaining independence at home.
Funding is based on a person’s individual circumstances and clinical needs rather than simply selecting equipment from a catalogue.
The Support at Home program covers a broad range of assistive technology. While eligibility varies depending on individual assessments, equipment generally falls into several categories.
Mobility Equipment
Products that help people move safely and confidently, including walking aids, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Equipment designed to improve safety and independence during showering and toileting, helping to reduce the risk of slips and falls.
Products that improve comfort, support positioning and assist in preventing pressure injuries, including adjustable beds and pressure care solutions.
Seating & Patient Transfers
Equipment that assists with sitting, standing and transferring safely, making everyday movements easier for both users and carers.
A wide range of products designed to make everyday tasks such as dressing, eating, cooking and reaching objects simpler and safer.
Home Modifications
In addition to assistive technology, eligible participants may also receive funding for home modifications that improve accessibility and safety.

What products and equipment can I buy?
The full list of eligible products and equipment available through the Support at Home program can be found on the My Aged Care website. Your assessor or care partner can help determine which products are suitable for your individual needs and whether they can be funded under your plan.
NOTE: The Mobility Store works with all care partners and service providers to ensure you receive the highest quality products delivered and installed in your home. Be sure to advise them if you would prefer that The Mobility Store provide your products.
Choosing the right equipment
Choosing the right equipment is about more than selecting a product – it’s about finding the solution that best supports your mobility, health and lifestyle. Recommendations are often made by an Occupational Therapist or other healthcare professional following an assessment of your needs, home environment and personal goals. Your approved aged care provider will then work with you to determine the most appropriate equipment and available funding.
